Iningainema tapete sp. nov. (Scytonemataceae, Cyanobacteria) from greenhouses in central Florida (USA) produces two types of nodularin with biosynthetic potential for microcystin-LR and anabaenopeptin production

چکیده

Iningainema is a recently described genus of heterocytous, false-branching cyanobacteria originally from Australia. In this work, we present tapete sp. nov., isolated subaerial and terrestrial environments in central Florida (USA). comparison to the sister species, our novel cyanobacterium produces nodularin-R (NOD-R) methylated isoform [MeAdda3] NOD previously not reported within genus; addition possessing biosynthetic gene clusters for microcystin anabaenopeptins production. Nodularin accumulation by exceeded 500 µg g−1 dry weight cultures grown nitrogen-depleted media. Such elevated toxin concentrations are alarming as was food production greenhouse poses potential risk products workforce exposure. Using morphology, 16S rRNA phylogeny, 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer (ITS) secondary structure, coupled with detection presence, provide evidence establishment toxic species cyanobacteria, tapete.

Stability of cyanotoxins, microcystin-LR, microcystin-RR and nodularin in seawater and BG-11 medium of different salinity

Microcystins and nodularin are potent hepatotoxins produced by fresh and seawater cyanobacteria. The persistence of three hepatotoxins – microcystin-LR, microcystin-RR and nodularin – was investigated in sterile BG-11 medium of different salinity and in water collected from the Gulf of Gdańsk. After 21 days of incubation at 17± 1◦C and constant illumination of about 40 μmol photon m−2 s−1 the c...

Sphingosinicella microcystinivorans gen. nov., sp. nov., a microcystin-degrading bacterium.

Three strains of bacteria that degrade the cyanobacterial hepatotoxin microcystin, Y2T, MDB2 and MDB3, were isolated from a eutrophic lake, Lake Suwa, and the Tenryu River, Japan, and characterized. These strains were aerobic and chemo-organotrophic and their cells were Gram-negative, non-spore-forming rods, motile by means of single polar flagella. Yellow-pigmented colonies were formed on nutr...

Growth, nitrogen fixation, and nodularin production by two baltic sea cyanobacteria.

In late summer, nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria Nodularia spumigena and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae form blooms in the open Baltic Sea. N. spumigena has caused several animal poisonings, but Baltic A. flos-aquae is not known to be toxic. In this laboratory study, performed with batch cultures, the influences of environmental conditions on the biomass and nitrogen fixation rate of N. spumigena and A....

Assessment of two natural toxin microcystin and nodularin for the control of Anopheles multicolor (Diptera: Anophelidae)

Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the efficacy of two cyanobacterial toxins (microcystin and nodularin) against the different larval instars, pupal and adult stages of Anopheles multicolor. Experiments were carried out in plastic cups, and the two toxins were tested at four concentrations, where the LC10, LC25, LC50 and LC90 for the first instar larvae under laboratory conditio...
